A Song (ar lean)
“This is a song which was composed by a man”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)But who could blame me, if I loved Old Ireland, far away
And Sligo town, that lies so snug
At the feet of Knocknarea.VThe green fields of Ardcummer and the groves of Cooper's Hill,
And Keash and Gavagh mountains, my mind does ofttimes fill.
Lough Arrow's stream that glides along
And drops into the sea
And Sligo town that lies so snug
At the foot of Knocknarea.- This was a poem which was written by a woman named Mrs Mulligan who lives in the townland of Doorla, Parish of Ballysadare and barony of Corran. She is now about eighty-five years of age and was a school teacher at one time. She wrote these lines.Remember me when this you see
And hear me in your mind
Be you not like the Weather-Cock,
That changes with the wind
Be you like the Turtle Dove
That sits on yonder tree
Lamenting for his own true love,
As I lament for thee- Faisnéiseoir
