  1. Marriages are usually celebrated on Wednesdays in this district as this day is considered lucky for weddings. The unlucky day is Friday and the unlucky month is May, the virgins' month. A local adage is.
    Marry in May
    And you rue the day".
    It is said that farmers are not usually very busy during Shrove and therefore have time to make matches, and weddings often take place at that time.
    Money is given as a dowry, and stock or goods are often given.
    In olden times the bride and bridegroom dressed in their Sunday best in honour of the occassion.
