  1. Legan Castle is in the townland of Legan in the barony of Gowran in the County Kilkenny. It derives its name from the ancient "líogán", Pillar or Hollow Stone" which was to be seen in the yard up to a few years ago. Leagan Castle is about four hundred years old. It was built and occupied by Oliver Grace who got the title of the "Legan Gent". The castle had a murder hole which is now closed up.
