  1. Ruins of castles are ver numerous in this district but those of Grennan House and Castle which was founded by Thomas Fitz Anthony, and Dysart Castle which was founded by Bishop Berkly, are the most remarkable.
    Cromwell attacked Grennan Castle in sixteen hundred and fifty. The garrison made a gallant resistance, but the Cromwellians were more powerful and so gained the victory, the castle was then in his hands.
    The ruins of an old Cistercian Monastery are situated in the neighbourhood of Jerpoint. This abbey was founded by Donal Mac Giolla Padraig, and it was destroyed at the time of the
