It was usual for "straw boys" to visit the house and wish the married couple luck. Sometimes their leader carried a horse (?) which he presented to the bride. This was supposed to bring happiness.
The "colicks" or straw boys dressed in gaily coloured clothes with straw masks. The people did not recognise them, so well did they disguise themselves.
