- The patron Saint of this district is St Móinín. There is not any Church dedicated to this Saint, but there is a well situated at Knocknacross in honour of the Saint. People go to this well on August 4th. Knocknacross is situated in the parish of Riverstown. There is one townland called after St Móinín - Coolamooneen. This townland is situated in the Parish of Geevagh. St Móinín is supposed to be buried near the well. There are stories told about this well and miracles that were worked at it. It is said that if one is suffering from sore eyes he or she goes to the well and washes his or her (feet) eyes, drinks some of the water and if a fish appears in the well it is a certain cure. A woman names Miss Gaffney who lives near the well caught a fish in it and put it in an oven to boil. No sooner was the oven on the fire than the water was spilled. The fish jumped out and returned to the well. There is another well in Cloghogue in the parish of Aughannagh called “Tobar Bríghidh”. There were many miracles worked there in olden times.
