    reached the desired height the standard twigs were bent over and joined together to form the bottom of the basket and these were again interwoven with light twigs.
    The basket was then turned up and the mouth was firmly bound with some more twigs.
    A smaller type of basket called a sgiath was used. This was bow shaped and was taken between the hands when loaded. It was used for picking potatoes, spreading seed, straining potatoes for cattle, and for drawing turf from the farm yard rick. Other baskets were made for feeding cattle and smaller ones for holding eggs.
