    To stop a nose-bleed
    Brown paper was put under the tongue or a key placed at the nape of the neck.
    To break an abscess
    Horses' bones were burnt and pounded finely and applied as a poultice.
    Stiff joints
    Crane's oil was used as a lubricant for this.
    An inflamed abscess
    For this a plaster of soap and sugar was used to draw out the inflammation.
