    Old people tell a story about a curate of this Parish who was fond of keeping late hours. He used to cross the Feale and come over to Islandanny card playing. One night he was on his way home and near the ford to cross when a big, black dog jumped up beside him and no whipping could put him off the empty seat on the priest's side car. The priest was convinced it was the Devil and did not keep late hours after that.
