The month of May was regarded as un-lucky and Monday, Wednesday and Friday were regarded as unlucky days. The following rhyme was well known amongst the country folk.
"Monday for health,
Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday no luck at all.
Thursday for losses
Friday for crosses
