  1. Marriages usually take place in this
district in Shrove. They do not take place on Shrove Tuesday, it is counted (unluckly) unlucky. Matches are made in the district.
Stock or goods are not given. Money is
    the dowry.
    I never remember marriages taking
plaxe in the houses. There is always
a wedding feast given in our district
It is nearly always held in the bride-groom
house. Straw-boys visit the place. They
dress in rags and straw the people
give them plenty of food and drink. They go into the house and dance, some of them sing and play music.
