  1. The birds most common to our district are: the blackbird, starling,crow, pidgeon, robin, jackdaw, magpie, thrush, curlew, wren, wild-duck, willie-wag-tail, tom-tit, green-linnet, chaffinch, water hen, crane, grey plover, golden plover, ballcoot and sparrow.
    The wild geese, swallows, corncrake and cuckoo migrate.
    The blackbird builds her nest in a bush or hedge. The crow builds her nest in the chimney or in a high tree. The pidgeon builds her nest in an ivy tree. The thrush builds her nest in a small tree. The willy - wag tail builds her nest in teh eves. The water hen builds her nest in the bog as also does the crane. The sparrow builds her nest in a meadow. The cuckoo does not build a nest. She lays her eggs in another birds nest. It is said a boy who robs a birds nest will never be lucky.
