  1. Shops were not common in olden times. Some people had to go to the nearest towns for goods butt others had not. Buying and selling was not carried on after Mass. Money was not always given for goods. Goods were often bartered. Labour was given in exchange for goods.
    Tick was the word used in connection with buying. Farthings Crowns, and Sovereigns are gone out of use.
