Long ago before steel ploughs became common the ploughs were all made of wood except the dearng perts. These were screwed onto the wood. The men who made the ploughs were called plough-wrights. In each locality a plough-wright lived. One of the last of the plough-wrights in Meath lived in Gormanlough, Navan. His name was Mr. Owen Bannon. In his young days he was quite prosperous but when he grew old he was very poor as he lost all his custom. So Mr. Owen Bannon died a poor man.Writer - Patrick Austin, Hayes, Navan Co. Meath.
