  1. The present roads were made in the Famine time, as the Government gave relief grants to make them. The wages received were 12s..6d a week. The hours were from 6 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock in the evening and one hour was allowed for dinner. In former times the roads were made by local contract. They were made in a very primitive fashion. The stones were broken by hand and thrown on the road. The old name of the road from Mohober to the cross of Modes hill was called "Cultaigte". In former times there was a pathway leading from Mohober to Callan and another to Ballingarry. On the path to Callan you would have to pass two rivers and there was a ford or coor on each of them where you could cross on foot. There was also and old road from Clashbeg to Mohober. The old bridge is still to be seen on the King's river and portion of the old road could still be pointed out in the fields. There was an old road from Mohober to Ballingarry. It is called the Booreen Buide or the yellow road. There were several old roads in the locality but they are now levelled out.
