In the neighbourhood of Thomastown are many fields which derive their names from their natural characteristics, such as the "Seven Acres" because of the number of acres in it. The "Inch" is so-called because of its nearness to the river. "Follis's Inch" is called by this name after its present owner.
The "Filbars" so-called because in years gone by the barges sailed up the Nore and this field was used as a landing stage where the barges loaded and unloaded and was known as the Field Barge and hence the name Filbars.Heights.
