- We had a half acre of ground this year for potatoes. These are the names of the potatoes we had this year. Orange Banners Kerpinks, Orange Victors, Epicure. We set our potatoes in drills and ridges. The drills are long and narrow and the ridges are cut flat. The spades are not made local. they are bought in the shop at Sullivans. The seed is cut with knives and before the seed is sown they spreads manure in the drills. After the drills are closed they leave them alone after a couple of days they weed them. My father digs the potatoes in September and my brother, my sister and my mother pick them in the evening when they were finished they pit them and cover them with straw and earth.
