- The people are not allowed to fish from six o'clock on Saturday morning to six o'clock on Monday morning. They cast lots to see which of them would be the first to fish. If two men are fishing together they divide the fish between them. It is a free fishery from Ballyhorgan Quay to the Cashen. They cast lots for the first haul but in our district they give the first hall to Mick Costello because it is on his banks they fish. Before going out fishing people say the rosary and sprinkle holy water on the nets.
