When the potatoes were dug they were rotten in the ground. The people then were living on porridge and on buttermilk and the children ate raw turnips.
The famine came from a blight and the blight came from rain east wind and fog. It was mostly all children who died in the famine. They died from hunger followed by sickness.
- This district was effected very much during the time of the "Great Famine"
During the year previous to the dread visitation this district was very thickly populated. There are about 30 houses less in this district. People can point out sites of houses where people would never suppose a house was ever situated.
