This picture is hanging here to bring good luck and spare the stock. - There are 34 cows on Newtown farm. They have all got names. Some of them are Forget-me-not, Kitty, Sheila, Molly, Susan, Nora, Lissie, Annie, Lily, Dolly, Suecat, Bess and Mooly. When the man is driving the cows he shouts Hi up.
There are about 20 calves. They also have names such as Peggs, Larry, and Nancy. When the man wants to call the cows he says "suck suck".
The cowhouse is generaly called the byre. It is built of stone and finished with cement. The cows are tied to the mangers with chains fastened around there necks.
People hang braches of blessed palm on the walls of the cow house to bring luck on the stock.- Bailitheoir
