  1. People usually got up at break of day and went off to work. They had several jobs done before they came into breakfast. For breakfast they had a mug of tea and brown bread.
The dinner was about noon and potatoes were the principal food and sometimes one slice of bacon would soften the cabbage. This meat was given to the man of the house and the rest feasted on spuds, cabbage and sour milk. Sometimes salted fish was used. This was often roasted on the turf ashes.
For supper they often had porridge made with yellow meal and sometimes tea and brown bread. If the work was being done any distance from the house they had not dinner until evening. They had dinner and supper together.
Tables were always kept in by the wall out of the way except when in use for meals. They always had the whole wheaten flour with was called oneway.
