The local names that are given to the potatoes are the Champions, the Kerr pinks and the Arran Banners. The Kerr pinks grown best in the district.
Long ago potatoes were used instead of starch. - Potatoes are grown on our farm. There are two acres of potatoes sown every year. Some years there is a better crop of potatoes than other years. My father prepares the ground. The ground is manured before turned up. In my district the potatoes are usually sown in drills. The land is first broken up with a pair of horses and a spring(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
