  1. A Song (ar lean)

Now as the hawthorn is in blossom,

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
    Just like the limited mail,
The local peasants are going to work,
The turf season now we all do hail,
Soon will be heard the toilers laughter
Where nought was heard but the Gaoithe Sidhe
    And the banshee's wail
Soon will be seen the old time customs,
    The little turf-fires,
And the smoke going in the air.
The old time feats they are recorded
But none to-day with them can compare
Young folks are off to the fountain
To fetch spring water pure and real.
Then the man cook will be busy very busy,
Boiling eggs for the midday meal,
At luncheon time the sames repeated,
Which fills each workmans heart with glee
When served with bread and butter,
Two fresh eggs and a big mug of tea
This great refresher set us all in motion
Until the sun is sinking low,
Then like a trumpet sound is heard
The shout which means "Home boys home we go".
    Home along the beautiful roadway
No more hardship there will be
Thanks to our great and noble statesmen
