    On the back of the car in white letters read : - John Ahern, "Landlord". He used to pay half yearly visits to schools and certain houses where he demanded and received his half yearly instalments, his tenants were always sympathetic and never looked for an abatement on his demands.
    From the axle under his car a bucket was usually suspended and this he kept to bring water to his donkey.
    He used to sit on an improvised seat in front when driving, and had travelled most of the Munster Counties.
