  1. In the vicinity of Crecore as well as having a "Burned House" we also have a "Haunted House". About 100 years ago, a parish priest set about erecting a residence in the townland of Sloughacloka about half-way to the left, between this school and the Railway Gates.
Having secured the site the men set to work and as it happened that a fort obscured the view to the front he decided to level it off. This the men reluctantly refused to do, for they believed it was wrong to interfere with those treasured spots, then they offered to do it, if the priest dug the first sod.
So the priest decided to do so, and taking the spade he set to work and lo and behold ! he got a pain in his knee from which he never recovered.
