- I heard of a man who lived near the Lough many years ago, who was a powerful swimmer. He purchased a bonham at Croom Pig Market and apparently got well "lubricated", preparatory to his homeward trip when he returned from the Market on removing the bonham from the ass crib it escaped and ran across an intervening field towards the Lough hotly pursued by its owner.
The man almost captured the animal at the edge of the Lough but the bonham made a sudden diversion and took to the water swimming on toward the centre of the Lough. The man divested himself of boots and clothes and swam in pursuit of his refractory purchase. This was a precarious proceeding and needless, so to speak, as the bonham(continues on next page)
