  1. Archbishop Hurley was born and brought up here. He studied at Louvain Paris with great distinction, becoming Professor of Law in the former University. He went to Rome where he was received by Pope Gregory XIII who appointed him Archbishop of Cashel. He immediately went to Ireland where he found everything in chaos and anarchy by Miler Mc Grath the usurper. He went about teaching and baptising the faithful. Betrayed by the Justice who reported to Loftus who was then head of the government in Ireland. He was taken bound in chains and confined in a dungeon.
    The authorities used every means to make him renounce the Pope and feeling they could not succeed, they put his legs into a vessel containing oil which was set alight, the flesh fell from his legs
