    as match-making. A very old man living in Ballybay tells of an incident he knew of -
    The bride and groom's fathers met in a public house, arranged for the wedding to take place on the following Tuesday night week. A sum of £50 was to be handed over as dowery. A few friends were asked to attend the wedding. Meanwhile the bride's father could only borrow £49 and at the last moment the young man would't go on with the wedding being at the loss of one pound note. Some time afterwards he married and got a wife with money, but she ruled him with a rod of iron.
