The month of March is considered unlucky for marriages. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are very good days for marriages. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are bad days for marriages. As the old rhyme says:-Monday for health,
Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday the best day of all.
Thursday for losses, and
Friday for crosses, and
Saturday is no day at all.People say that it is very unlucky for two people out of the same family to be getting married in the same year.
Matches are sometimes made in our district. Money is given as dowry. Poorer people sometimes give goods or stock off their farm.
About fifty years ago people got married in their own homes. A party or feast was held in the brides home. "Straw boys" visited the houses during the feast. Their dress was made of straw. They sang songs(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
