- Some people are able to do a lot of Crafts. There are not so many people in Ireland now that are able to make horses collars and shoe horses and do other things themselves. The way they thatch the houses is when they draw in the corn they keep some of of it and scutch it and make reed out of it. They keep it then in a loft until they are thatching. They throw down some of the old thatch. Then they put streaks of reed along and then stick scollaps in that and then they put up a streak of reed on that and stick more scollaps in that and so on until they have it finished. The way they mend horses collars is when they clip the horse they keep the main and put it into a bag. When they are mending the collar; they put some of the hair into the collar and put lining over it and sew it to the leather and they do the same with the other side.
