  1. Thomastown House was the birth place of Father Theobald Mattew the Apostle of Temporance. He was born there in 1790. He preached his first in Kilfeacle in 1814. His first mission, was in Kilkenny. Later he went to Cork and started his famous Total Abstinance work. Millions of people took the pledge. He died in 1856. Thomastown belonged to George Mattew Earl of Landaff.
