The cows are housed in December well fed with good hay and roots. The have names such as Wild cow, Straigt horn, polly, blue cow, White cow, Kerry, Tipperary, Spot, Speckled Cow, locked horns, and so forth. We say "Howa howa" when turning out cows and "Suck Suck" when calling calves The cows are tied with chains around their necks. We put palm in the byre for luck. We always bless the cows with holy or Easter water after calving and make the sign of the cross with the first milk also singe the udder with a blessed candle and put a few drops of the candle along the cows back. We strain the milk after milking and then wash our hands.
