At this Fort there was a skirmish in the Fenian rising 1867 when about 2000 Fenians under General Thos. F. Burke were attacked by 31st Regiment. They also say that the Fenians made use of the underground passage to the cellar.

A boy attending school Willie Crowe has the blade of a bayonet used by a relative of his in the Fenian rising and found hidden in a thatch of a derelict house a few years ago.
A pond just outside the School playground is said to hold some of the pikes used in the Fenian Rising.
