- There was a hedge-schoolmaster in the top of Gurtnacranna in the parish of Upperchurch Co. Tipperary. Mr Wall was the name of the hedge-schoolmaster he was a stranger. He used to give them instructions. The children used to give him a little money. It was with a slate and a slate pencil they used to write with. It was English the schoolmaster used to teach them. They used to come to a certain field every morning. The first schoomaster in the old school in Ileigh was Mr O' Neill. There was a loft over the school and he used to sleep there

It is not known in what house. There was no Irish in their time,
