1. Folklore - Fairy Forts

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There is a fairy fort about half a mile from my house. There is no name on it except the "Liss" or "Fort". It is in the townland of Gortnasgregga and in the parish of Kanturk. It is a round ring and about twenty feet in diameter. There is a ditch around it and this ditch is about five feet at the base. There are blackthorn bushes planted here and there all round it. There is no entrance except that made by cattle. The field where this is, is a t present being tilled but still the farmer left the Liss untouched. It is said that a ball of light is often seen moving around this Liss and then it would rise up suddenly and disappear in the air. There was never any noise heard there only this light.

   A certain man was once going to a fair. The night before it he put his horse into this field where the Liss was so that he would have him near the house in the morning. The man got up next morning about two o'clock to go to the fair. When he was ready he went out to catch the horse. He tried for him in the Liss field where he put him the night before but he did not find the horse there. He did not find the horse in the next field either but he did not take any notice of this for he thought the horse might be after going into the next field. He tried all his own land and then he tried his neighbours farms but still he did not find the horse. He kept seeking until
