- The feast of Saint Martin is honoured by the people of this district by killing cattle and fowl. Cotton is dipped in the blood and then put in a safe place for a year as it is said to cure a bad pain at the first touch.
Palm blessed on Palm Sunday is kept in a persons clothes and in the house. For it said by burning a piece of palm in time of a storm of thunder and lightening that it would never do any harm to that house.
On Saint Brigids Eve the old people hang out a handkerchief that was never washed and it would cure a pain in the head.
Long ago Saint Brigid wanted a piece of ground from a big landlord for to build a convent. He asked her how much ground did she want and she said one half acre so he refused. She asked him then would he give her as much ground as her cloak would cover. As bigoted as he was he said he would. She signed deeds for the land that her cloack would cover. He started to laugh at the size of the ground to build the convent. She took off her cloak and spread it on the ground. Then a miracle took place. The cloak expanded untill it covered what is now known as the Golden Vale of Limerick about three hundred acres. The old titled worm dropped dead with the fright.- Faisnéiseoir
