- Stories About Castlehacket.1. Long ago, when the Kirwan's lived in Castlehacket, they used to keep race horses. One day as Mr. Kirwan was coming from a hunt, a little man came down from the hill of Knockma and met him at Bligh's gate, and asked him was he going to the races which were to take place Galway a few days later. So Mr. said he was. Then the little man said he would send him a man to ride his horse, and he would surely win the day. On the morning of the races, Mr. Kirwan went to Galway with his race horse, and stabled him in Mr. Kirwan's yard. So after a little while, a little man came in and asked for Mr. Kirwan's horse. So one of the yard men told him where the horse was, he went to the stable and took him out, jumped on his back and went to the racecourse, and won the day for Mr. Kirwan. So in the evening, Mr. Kirwan went to look for the man that rode his horse, till he would pay him, but he was no where to be found, as he had gone to the hill of Knockma again. So Mr. Kirwan returned home delighted with his day.
