- It was the custom long ago for the young boys to go playing cards in a neighbour's house. One night John Naughton was playing cards in a house in Killamonagh. When he was coming home at about 2 o'clock, he had to pass by Fahy's lake. He saw a bean síoc in the lake washing clothes, and he spoke to her but she had a great fight with him. Some one's cock crew then and she said to him, "Only for that man's cock crew you would not go home safe this night," and he never went out after that.
