- In Carraig-more mountain is a lough called Mara Boyle.A long time ago a man called Charlie Boyle was bringing home meal through the old foot-road across the mountain from Castlederg [?] on horseback. When he came near this Lough in which were water-hoses he heard the neighing of one of them. His horse, which had the breed of a water-horse in it, heard the neighing too and made for the Lough. Boyle did his best to keep him back but it was no use.Ride, horse, and load were all lost in the Lough.Ever after the Lough was known as Mara-Boyle.Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
