  1. The most noted trade that was practiced in this district was basket making. They made the bottom of the basket first. Then they got a hoop and they put holes in it. Then they put some sticks in an upright position and they started weaving the rods. Another trade that was practised was making wooden ploughs. They got two sticks and they fastened them together. Then they got the sock and the coulter. The sock and colter were made at the forge. When the people wanted candles they peeled the rushes and they dipped them in tallow. Then they stuck them in a sod of turf.
    The women spun flax. Then they brought it to the weaver who weaved it for them. They spun the twine like wool on a spinning wheel. When they were making barrels they used an implement like a hatchet for shaping the wood. They called it an adze. Dan Feely was a nailer. He lived near Ballyharris
