- There was a Saint in this district long ago. This Saint passed by Holywell. He knelt down near the well and he left the track of his knees on a stone near the well. The name of the Saint was St. Patrick. The village got that name on account of the Blessed well. People go on a pilgrimage to the well on the seventh of August. The prayers the people say when they go to Holywell are, Five Our Fathers and FIve Hail marys. Saint Brigid visited this district and there is a well called after her in Tulrahan. There is a cross in Holywell made of stone; it is near the well and when people go on a pilgrimage they kneel near the cross. Saint Patrick's day is kept in honour of him. There is a mug hanging on a tree near the well and the people teera the water with the mug. A great many people come to the well for water.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
