- In this district there was a school in Meany's old field near the wood lane.
It was there in the penal times. Many young boys and girls went to this school that was out in the open air.
They had no desks to sit on but they had stones and logs instead.
The teacher came from Germany to Meany's old field to teach school.
The teacher's name was Michael Dean. He was a school teacher for over thirty years.
He taught them how to speak Irish and Latin and they had no copies only slates to write upon.
The teacher was beheaded when it was found out about him teaching school. He was seen after his death standing where the old school was by the ditch without any head.
