- There were many people living around here during the Famine. The blight came in July before the potatoes were sprayed. When it was first noticed the leaves had black spots on them and after some time the stalks withered. When they dug the potatoes they were black and rotting.
One man whose name is unknown had two pits of potatoes which were not rotten. His neighbours asked him for some and he refused them. When he went to the pit next day all the potatoes were black.
The Government supplied food to some districts where the potatoes were black.
