  1. There is a fort in Ballysheen usually called a rath. It is circular in shape surrounded by a mound of earth, outside which there is a circle of trees. In the centre of it, is an entrance hole. It is believed to have been built by the Danes; and after the departure of the Danes it became occupied by the fairies. Mr James Keogh who owns the land, ploughed it and the fairies removed the plough that night to the next field so they did not try to plough the fort after.
