    When goods were given and people did not pay for them at the time, they would say they got them on "tick".

  2. Shops were not as common in old times as they are now. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Buying and selling were not carried on after Mass. Money was not always given for goods. Eggs and butter were given instead.
    If a person got goods and did not pay for them, it would be said he got them on "tick" It is considered unlucky to buy or leave out money on New Year's Day. There is no account of pedlars or any other travellers who visited the district long
