  1. There were several hedge school in our district long ago. Hedge-schools were the name for them. There was one in Tibarney, held in a barn. John Connolly was the name of the teacher. There was another hedge school in Lisduff. The name of the teacher was Paddy Murphy. They were natives of the district.
    They were paid by the scholars with meat and potatoes. They were taught reading, writing arithmetic, and Irish.
