“The subjects taught in the hedge-schools were Arithmetic including Mensuration, Irish and English.”
The subjects taught in the hedge-schools were Arithmetic including Mensuration, Irish and English. It would seem as if English was the medium of instruction in Humphrey O'Sullivan's school, and that Irish was taught as a subject. "The Adventures of Captain Freney" was a book in used at the schools. Flat tomb-stones were used as black-boards, slates being later used by the pupils.
