- There is a spot at the foot of the mountain called Léim an tSagairt. Tradition tells that a priest forced his horse to jump a chasm there while flying from his pursuers. He had been celebrating Mass when warned that the soldiers were on his trail.

- Priestown is situated about two miles from Mullinahone. Mass is said to have been celebrated in the caves, thus giving its name to the district.
