    St Brigid's Day
    On St. Brigid's day men and boys dress up and go around carrying with them a long stick with a little head cut from a turnip on it. this is called "Little Biddy" and they gather money for it.
    St Patrick's Day
    Grown up people wear a piece shamrock on St. Patrick's Day and when they are drinking any intoxicating drink they always wet the piece of shamrock. this is called "wetting the shamrock". Children wear a small harp.
    Shrove Tuesday
    People get married on that day before Lent starts. Pancakes are always made and eaten with the supper, it is locally called "Pancake Night"
    Ash Wednesday
    Ashes are blessed in the church that day and the "sign of the Cross" is made on everybodies forehead with the Blessed Ashes.
    Holy Thursday
    People visit the church and spend time in Adoration before the "Alter of Repose".
    Good Friday
    Silence is kept from twelve oclock until three in honour of the Passion.
