  1. In the fifth century there lived in Akseaton a man called "The Black Druid of the Mountain". He lived where the Desmond Castle now stands He had two daughters.
St. Patrick and his followers when on their way through Askeaton encamped in the Castle Hewson woods. The Druid's daughters on hearing that St. Patrick was near were most anxious to embrace the true faith. When all were sleeping they crept out and made their way to where St. Patrick and his followers were.
When the Druid heard that St. Patrick was coming, he by his magic power dried up all the wells round Askeaton so that St. patrick could not baptise.
When he heard what his two daughters had done he vowed that he would hang them. On hearing this the children wandered rounds the roads for a day and a night People travelling next day found them dead
